Mid-Year book freak out tag

Hello readers!! We’re now half way through the year, which is crazy because it feels like this year has been 3 years in one, and at the same time how are we already 6 months in?! Anyways I thought it would be fun to do the mid year freak out tag!

Questions

1. Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2020?

Easy answer, On The Come Up by Angie Thomas. I read it early March and it was amazing, funny, sad, emotional, empowering, everything you’d love in a book. I loved the characters and how the plot developed. Also there’s bits of Bri rapping it just adds a new element and breaks the story up it’s fantastic and I highly suggest you check it out! I’m planning on rereading it soon!

2. Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2020?

The only sequel I read this year (so far) is The Son of Neptune, I rated it 5 stars! For now it’s my favorite out of the HOO series. Spoiler alert: I think what makes it the more interesting book is that you get to read about another camp and get introduced to so many new characters, new traditions, lifestyles etc.

3. New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To?

I’m always behind on new release, I try and prioritize the books I bought months ago/ARCs but there are a few books that I’d like to read that have already come out! My top 3 are: Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo, When We Were Magic by Sarah Gailey and Woven in Moonlight by Isabel Ibañez.

4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2020?

Obviously Lobizona by Romina Garber is probably my most anticipated release, I haven’t shut up about it since I read a blurb. Next one is Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, book twitter has been talking about this book for months! And after seeing so many good reviews for it, I’m really excited to get to read such a diverse book!! And Finally the last book I’m excited to read is Smash It! by Francina Simone, the cover is great, the blurb sounds fantastic, it’s everything I need for these stressful time.

5. Biggest Disappointment?

I haven’t had too many bad reads this year, but I was excited to read Nissa by Bethany Lopez and was left with nothing, boring and rushed, definitely not for me I have a full review if you’d like to check it out!

6. Biggest Surprise?

Love and Other Train wrecks, a romcom type of book, I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did. I stayed up until 1 or 2 am reading it. It was one of those books that you just have to accept that thing are going to go extremely bad and wild before the characters have some chill moments. Also throughout the book you’ll find yourself saying why are they doing this? This isn’t a good idea at all? but it’s part of the fun!

7. Favourite New Author?

Emma Lord! I read her debut book Tweet Cute at the beginning of the year, I loved her writing style, it’s fun, has some good pop culture jokes, and lovable characters! I loved how she handled different dynamics, showing the good and bad from family to school, to friends. It’s cheesy (pun intended) in all the right ways. Here’s my full review! I heard she has a new book coming out early January and can’t wait to read that one too!

8. Newest Fictional Crush?

None? I don’t get fictional crushes, and haven’t been reading many romance books, so none for me this year!

9. Newest Favourite Character?

Ead from The Priory of an Orange Tree, what a badass character!! She lived a double life to protect the queen, she also has powers that help her with her mission. She’s incredibly smart and always has a plan, I loved how she put the ones she loved first and tried to protect them as much as she could

10. Book That Made You Cry?

On the come up (frustration tears), The Priory of an Orange Tree (character complication), The Son of Neptune (happy tears). I should say that these aren’t full on sobbing sessions, more like tears in my eyes, I’m trying to stay away from sad books this year!

11. Book That Made You Happy?

On the come up it’s really good and as you can see it made me go through 20 different emotions, The Mark of Athena, so many characters that I missed! The one I’m currently reading, This Is Kind of an Epic Love Story by Kacen Callender, I’m about half way through and it has so many cute and funny scenes!!

12. Most Beautiful Book You Bought So Far This Year?

Una sonata de verano!! I talked about this one a few months ago I’m in love with the cover! I think its mainly the colors and composition that I love. Usually I go more for the flat color illustrations, but this one has such an interesting collage that I can’t help but love it!

13. What Books Do You Need To Read By The End of The Year?

I don’t have strict TBRs for the reat of the year, but I really want to finish Heroes of Olympus, Dumplin’ I hauled it a while back and need to read it, Ghost squad by Claribel Ortega is also pretty high on the list! Hopefully I get to these books some time during the year.

I’d love to hear how your bookish year is going! Which book has been your favorite and you can’t stop talking about?
